2011 WSOP Europe Gets a New Home
Written by Alice Beamont on February 10, 2011 – 6:50 am A new home for the WSOP in 2011 doesn’t come as a surprise. But what is surprising is that it’s the European version that will be moving venues. While, to the surprise of some, the WSOP in Vegas will remain at Rio, it’s sister-series of tournaments across the pond is getting a new look. The 2011 WSOP Europe will be held in Cannes, France.
After debuting in 2007, WSOP Europe has been held in London for all four years of its existence. But cramped facilities at the Casino at the Empire are no longer able to accommodate WSOP Europe’s gradually increasing popularity.
This year’s series will be held at in two locations in Cannes, the Casino Barrière de Cannes Croisette and the Hôtel Majestic Barrière, from October 7th through the 21st. A schedule of events has not yet been released.
Cannes is located in the south of France. The Mediterranean climate and reduced hustle-bustle, only 75,000 people live in Cannes compared to London’s 7.5 million, should result in a nice change of scenery for WSOP Europe participants. The city is known for playing host to the world-famous Cannes Film Festival each May.
