District of Columbia to Legalize Online Gambling

The District of Columbia has immediate plans to legalize online gambling.   If the district succeeds, they will be the first in the United States to do so. The plan is for legalized blackjack, Texas Hold’em and bingo to be available to the local public by September. That’s only about two months away.

The legalization of the aforementioned games would be a major step in the fight to make online gambling legal on the Federal level, especially considering the fact that it would be legalized in the country’s capital.

Before the plan goes into effect, there are a number of issues officials are grappling with. One of the biggest issues is the official’s knowledge about what constitutes legal and illegal online gambling in the United States. The committee is planning to research the current laws governing online gambling before going forward. Right now, there is no consensus on the matter.

The move to attempt to legalize online gambling in the District has raised some eyebrows, especially considering the fact that the Department of Justice recently came down hard on several online poker websites. There are thus still some questions surrounding the legality of the proposed plan. The committee is not completely sure that their proposal will pass legal scrutiny. They are, however, willing to go forward to until they are able to determine whether or not it will.
