U.K. Proposes Changes to Online Gambling Laws

Online gamblers can expect some changes to the laws which govern gambling in the United Kingdom. Some of the proposed changes include the removal of the White List. The White List recognizes licenses that have approved by various jurisdictions, including those outside the U.K.

The upcoming changes are in response to the recent crackdown in the United States on several online, poker websites, this and the suspension of Full Tilt Poker’s license, which was on the White List.

The new laws require that companies that service U.K. citizens be licensed by the U.K. Offshore licenses will no longer be accepted. Domestic licenses are now required.  This is similar to the laws which govern internet-based gambling in two other EU countries, France and Italy.

The United Kingdom hopes to better protect its citizens by implementing the new rules.  By ensuring that those online casinos which service those in the U.K. are licensed by the government, online gamblers can feel more secure, knowing that the online gambling websites have been thoroughly screened.  This also helps the viability of local online gambling companies.
