In just under two hours, PokerStars user alberto ka managed to rake in $90,728.44 during his TCOOP Event 19 win. The tournament, which featured the standard No Limit Holdem, was played at Hyper Turbo speed.

So far, the Turbo Championship of Online Poker has been a smashing success for PokerStars. In Event 19 alone, some 2,724 players ponied up the necessary $210.80 buy in, bringing the total prize pool up to $574,219.20. As with several earlier events, this figure represented almost a doubling of the guarantee (which, in this case, was $300,000).

It wasnt just the amateurs who enjoyed the Hyper Turbo action, either.

Viktor Blom is back in business – won $560,000 last night

After a terrible losing streak last weekend, Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom took a break at 16:00 on Monday. It didn’t take long before people started speculating in whether or not the young swede had cleaned out his PokerStars account. But at 01:00 am on Tuesday he returned to the $50/$100 and $100/$200 Omaha tables and continued playing.

Things went much better for him then, and after about 3,600 hands against several regulars at the nosebleed tables he got away with a $560,000 profit.

IGT to Acquire DoubleDown Interactive – 01-16-12

January 16 – International Game Technology (IGT), the Las Vegas-based gaming giant has announced its intention to acquire leading online social games developer, DoubleDown Interactive.

IGT will spend up to $500 million to acquire the group, which has been in operation since 2004, and has a powerful presence on social networking site, Facebook thanks to its popular DoubleDown Casino.

The deal for IGT to acquire DoubleDown Interactive will see it pay $250 million in cash upfront, $85 million in retention payments over the next two years, plus an additional $165 million over the next three years, depending on whether DoubleDown hits pre-agreed financial targets.

“The addition of DoubleDown Interactive launches IGT into a leadership position in social gaming, extends our global reach through new mediums and leverages our unmatched expertise in game development,” said the Chief Executive Officer for IGT, Patti Hart.

Victor Chandler Re-Branding UK Site

Online betting giant Victor Chandler has announced that it is undertaking a new marketing strategy for its UK website, bringing it into line with its operations throughout the rest of Europe.

The online site will now be called BetVictor, with its various wagering products carrying the brand name. The move has been made to ensure brand consistency across the continent.

Victor Chandler, the company’s Chairman commented on the brand change earlier in the week, saying “As a company we are always innovating and moving forward, as well as extending our brand across new territories.
